Why Businesses Should Blog

In the age of social media the attention that business blogs used to have is diminishing; traded for the instant gratification and ease of tweeting and posting short pieces to Facebook with a picture of your latest product or special of the day.

Don’t get me wrong, social media is a fantastic tool for marketing and can’t be ignored (in fact, it deserves a lot of attention), but blogging on a regular basis serves a wide array of purposes outside of what can be realized via social media.Many of the benefits of blogging are specific to industries. Here are a few reasons why Businesses should blog.

  • Search engines love fresh content, along with people doing some research. So you will be more likely to come up when people search for your products or services.

It is also an opportunity to drive traffic to your website. By regularly updating your blog you will feature higher on search engines while attracting more people.  So how can you drive traffic. In-Short blogging, social media and search engines. Every time you blog you create more content that people can share via social media eg. LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter etc. It is also giving one more cue to Google that your page is active and that they should be checking it frequently for updates.

  • It adds value to your site and an opportunity for you to engage with people who are looking for what you provide. It is an opportunity to go into depth about what you provide.
  • Helps convert traffic into Leads.  With traffic now being directed to your blog there is an opportunity for businesses to turn this traffic into leads. A good way to gain some information about people visiting their blog would be to have some sort of free trial or extra information if they fill out a form providing some contact details. This can then be used to create leads.
  • It establishes that you are an authority or expert on the subject(s) you are writing about. If in the blog your constantly creating content that is answering questions your customers have, then imagine the good impression they get from your blog.
  • It helps you outrank your competitors. Also by regularly writing about your product or field you gain up to date knowledge and more in depth information.
  • It drives long term results. In other words an hour taken to write a blog now could pay off big time in the future. The blog could gain for example 50 views today, 25 views tomorrow and so on but at a decreasing rate. You may think the views will eventually just stop but this is not the case. That blog post is now ranking in search engines. That means for days, weeks, months, and years to come, you can continue to get traffic and leads from that blog post.

These are a few reasons why businesses should blog but yet very valid reasons why they should.
